Job Details

Stay True, An LGBTQ+ Theatre Company is seeking Directors for its first annual Bloom: A Collection of New Queer Voices, a short workshop and development opportunity for four new works by queer playwrights. The workshops will take place virtually over two weeks from May 31 - June 13, 2021 and will conclude with a ticketed, live-streamed virtual reading of the plays. Summaries of the plays in search of directors are below.

Girl: A Gender Expression
by Ezra Brain (they/them/theirs)
Girl: A Gender Expression is an experimental exploration of gender from a very subjective point-of-view. Girl seeks to explore the political, social, and professional experiences of being not just a trans person but a specific trans person. Mixing dialogue, speeches, dance sequences, and everything in between, Girl is a radical demand for specificity, self-acceptance, and a deconstruction of the traditional ways that plays are created that attempts to shock, enrage, comfort, and challenge its audience. And maybe it’s also funny?

The Others
 by Josh Levine (he/him/his)
The Others is a humorous family drama that explores what happens when a conflict over religious beliefs causes a rift in a tight-knit Jewish family and how that trauma resonates twenty-five years into the future.

-For Girl: A Gender Expression, directors who are members of the TGNC community are strongly encouraged to apply.

-For The Others, directors who are part of a Jewish community are strongly encouraged to apply.

-Directors should have experience directing on a virtual platform

The workshop dates for Bloom are May 31-June 13, 2021, Must be available on May 31 which is Memorial Day; we will be having meet and greet and orientation for everyone involved. It will be only a few hours so everyone can still enjoy their holiday and day off. The rehearsal process will start on Tuesday June 1, 2021. Rehearsals are to be scheduled at the discretion of the director and playwright. Each play will be assigned two industry member panelists, who will attend one rehearsal at the end of the first week as well as the final presentation to have a feedback-based discussion with the playwrights. Directors should be regimented during the workshop process and enforce and be respectful of the rehearsal schedule.
