DESCRIPTION

Camp Manitou is seeking an experienced Scenic Designer to design and build for the 2021 Summer season. Camp Manitou, located in Oakland, Maine, is an all-boys sports camp with a strong theatre program. The Theatre department is staffed with professional directors and designers from around the county. During the summer season, four plays are produced. We are following all CDC guidelines to produce theater in a safe and low-risk environment for our campers and staff. Applicants of all races, ethnicities, cultires, backgrounds, and genders are encouraged to apply.

The Scenic Designer is responsible for the scenic design and build of all four plays. The Scenic Designer works closely with the Director on the design, while overseeing the Carpenter/ Scenic Painter on staff.

Responsibilities:

-Execute scenic design/build for all 4 sets

-Collaborate with Theatre team on load-in of scenic elements

-Adhere to production schedule

-Rentals/ purchasing for necessary scenic elements

-Manage scene shop/ equipment and staff

-Adhere to Camp Manitou’s mission


Qualifications:

-Three years of professional scenic design experience or comparable higher-level education

-Excellent Communication/ Collaboration skills

-Experience working with children 9-16

-Experience working on multiple productions simultaneously

-Scenic painting skills

-Ability to lift 40lbs, bend, lift, climb ladders

-Experience attending/ working at a summer camp encouraged
