Tony Winner Jane Krakowski to Play Liza Minnelli in "Simply Halston" Biopic

Tony Award winner Jane Krakowski, who will end her acclaimed turn in the Roundabout Theatre Company revival of Nine on Broadway Oct. 5, will take on the role of Liza Minnelli for the upcoming film "Simply Halston," confirmed the actress' agency.

Based on the life of legendary fashion designer Roy Halston Frowick, "Simply Halston" will star Alec Baldwin in the title role, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The work is reported to begin production by the end of this year under the direction of Dan Minahan, who co-wrote the script with James Lecesne.

Halston began his ascent up the fashion ladder as an assistant to designers Charles James and Lilly Daché, working his way through Bergdorf Goodman and later onto his own boutique. The man was also a celebrity fixture of New York City nightlife in the Studio 54 days. Halston and Minnelli were constant companions and he was the actress' personal designer. He died of AIDS in 1990.

Baldwin co-starred with Krakowski in a Roundabout Theate Company reading of Twentieth Century, which is slated to receive a Broadway revival in the new year. Baldwin's agent confirmed his involvement with the staging.

Nine Tony winner and former "Ally McBeal" co-star is also said to be cast in Paramount Pictures' remake of the 1966 romantic comedy "Alfie," starring Jude Law. Krakowski can currently be seen with Aida star Sherie Rene Scott in the film "Marci X."
