Danieley to Join Mazzie and Prince to Reprise Jerry Herman Tribute

By Andrew Gans
07 Aug 2003

Jason Danieley will join Marin Mazzie and Faith Prince as they reprise their recent tribute to composer Jerry Herman.

From Oct. 30-Nov. 1, the Broadway threesome will perform the songs of the Tony-winning composer backed by the Utah Symphony. Mazzie, Prince and John Barrowman performed a similar evening last May with the Boston Pops under the direction of Keith Lockhart. Lockhart will conduct the Utah Symphony as well.

The Oct. 30 concert will be held at the Val A. Browning Center in Ogden, UT, and the Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 evenings will be performed at the Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City, UT. Although the program is still in formation, the songs performed at the May tribute follow:

A Jerry Herman Overture; arr. Pippin, orch. Wendel/Blank “Before the Parade Passes By,” from Hello, Dolly! (Mazzie, Prince, Barrowman)
“So Long, Dearie,” from Hello, Dolly! (Prince)
“It Only Takes a Moment,” from Hello, Dolly! (Barrowman, Mazzie)
“If He Walked Into My Life,” from Mame (Mazzie)
“Where in the World Is My Prince?,” from Miss Spectacular (Prince)
“I Don’t Want to Know,” from Dear World (Barrowman)
“Wherever He Ain’t,” from Mack and Mabel (Mazzie)
“Time Heals Everything,” from Mack and Mabel (Prince)
“I Won’t Send Roses,” from Mack and Mabel (Barrowman)
“Bosom Buddies,” from Mame (Mazzie, Prince)
“Song on the Sand,” from La Cage Aux Folles (Mazzie)
“I Am What I Am,” from La Cage Aux Folles (Barrowman)
“The Best of Times,” from La Cage Aux Folles (Company)

One of the theatre's most celebrated composers, Jerry Herman has written the scores for such Broadway musicals as Milk and Honey; Hello, Dolly!; Mame; Dear World; Mack & Mabel; The Grand Tour and La Cage aux Folles. He also contributed songs to A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, and revues of his work include Jerry's Girls and An Evening with Jerry Herman. The songwriter won Tony Awards for his scores for Hello, Dolly! and La Cage aux Folles. A revue of Herman's work, Showtune, recently played Off-Broadway's Theatre at St. Peter's.

Jason Danieley was most recently on Broadway as Malcolm MacGregor in The Full Monty, a role he repeated in London. For his Broadway debut in Candide, he received a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk nomination.

A three-time Tony Award nominee for her performances in Kiss Me, Kate; Ragtime; and Passion, Marin Mazzie recently joined the current revival of Man of La Mancha. Her other theatrical credits include Into the Woods, Big River, The World Goes 'Round, the City Center Encores! production of Out of this World and Off Broadway's The Trojan Women: A love Story, where she met husband, actor Jason Danieley.

Faith Prince won a Tony Award for her performance as Adelaide in the Broadway revival of Guys and Dolls, and this past season she starred Off-Broadway in the Lincoln Center production of A Man of No Importance.

The Abravanel Hall is located at 123 West South Temple in Salt Lake City, UT. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (801) 533-6683 or visit www.utahsymphonyopera.org.
