The Accidental Pervert Will Reveal Himself Off-Broadway

By Allison Klamkin
07 Nov 2009

The Accidental Pervert, billed as a "shockingly hilarious tour-de-force of honesty," will begin Off-Broadway Dec. 4 at The Players Theatre. Written by and starring Andrew Goffman, the production will officially open Jan. 23, 2010.

Directed by Charles Messina, Goffman's The Accidental Pervert is, according to press notes, "the true accounting of one boy's odyssey to manhood via a childhood dominated by pornography, an addiction accumulated after the boy happens upon his father's collection of XXX-rated video tapes in the bedroom closet...

"Andrew Goffman takes his audience on a hilarious and self-deprecating journey into a world of video vixens, X-rated fantasies, and really dirty movies with no redeeming values whatsoever. He found the tapes at 11 years of age. The addiction controlled him until he was 26. The year he met his wife."

Goffman has performed his comedic acts in over 150 theatres and clubs over the past 12 years. He appeared on film in "The First Wives Club" and Off-Broadway in Grandma Sylvia's Funeral.

Charles Messina directed the Off-Broadway productions of Cirque Jacqueline, based on the life of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Mercury: The Afterlife and Times of a Rock God, about Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. For the big screen, Messina wrote the screenplays for the films "They're Just My Friends" and "Spy." He has directed several other Off-Broadway productions and co-wrote the upcoming film "Jekyll and Hyde" starring Forest Whitaker and 50 Cent.

The Accidental Pervert will feature choreography by Sherri Norige, lighting design by Josh Iacovelli, scenery and technical direction by Anthony Augello, audio and visual design by Andre Wingert, graphic design by Robert Tallon and dramaturgy by Liza Lentini. Gina Ferranti is the production coordinator.

The Accidental Pervert will play The Players Theatre, 115 MacDougal Street (between West 3rd Street and Minetta Lane). Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM. Tickets are $30 and can be obtained by calling (212) 352-3101 or by visiting www.theatermania.com.
