A reading of playwright Jason Mitchell's (The Boys Upstairs) play The Red Box, an exploration of the gay survivors of the Holocaust, will be presented in Montreal on Nov. 9.
Adam Blanshay will direct the reading that will take place in La Grand Salon of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel. The cast will feature Montreal-based actors Ellen David, Frank Fontaine, Shayne Devouges, Michelle Heisler, Jonathan Patterson, Gabe Hegedus, Brad Picken, Guido Cocomello and Christina Brocollini.
According to press notes, The Red Box "is a love story that explores the often-ignored subject of homosexual persecution during the Holocaust, and it is the only play that sheds light on the post-camp life of homosexual survivors."
The Red Box made its world premiere in New York at Walker Space in 2006. The world premiere of Mitchell's The Boys Upstairs played an extended run as part of the New York International Fringe Festival last summer.
