Reading of Jerusalem Syndrome to Feature Larsen, Zien, Craig, Reiber, Green and More

By Adam Hetrick
06 Nov 2009

Tony nominee Liz Larsen, Chip Zien and Michael Kadin Craig will lead an invitation-only industry reading of the musical The Jerusalem Syndrome Nov. 16 and 19 at Manhattan's TBG Theatre.

Presented at NYMF in 2008, The Jerusalem Syndrome features book and lyrics by Kleban Award winners Laurence Holzman and Felicia Needleman and music by Kyle Rosen.

In addition to Larsen (Hairspray, The Most Happy Fella), Zien (Into the Woods, Falsettos, Les Miserables) and Craig (Altar Boyz), the reading will feature Bruce Sabath (Company), Alan H. Green (Happiness, Spelling Bee), Julie Reiber (Wicked), Ryan Murray, Bret Carr, Roger DeWitt (The Woman in White, Adding Machine), Wendy Fox, Vanessa Lemonides (Jewtopia), Felicia Ricci, Emily Shoolin (Enter Laughing) and J.D. Webster (Wonderful Town, Ragtime).

Annette Jolles will direct the industry readings with musical direction by Sariva Goetz.

According to press notes, "This tuneful show brings to life the strange, but real, psychological phenomenon that makes tourists in Jerusalem come to believe they are figures from the Bible. The musical follows an ensemble of characters whose lives intertwine when they journey to Israel and experience the syndrome. Zaniness ensues as Moses leads Noah, Abraham, John the Baptist and not one, but two Virgin Marys on an exodus from the psych ward while Jesus roams the Holy City working his own kind of miracles."

TBG Theatre is located at 312 West 36th Street in Manhattan. Visit JerusalemSyndrome.
