Women's Project Cancels Nov. 2 Preview of Or,; Performances to Resume Nov. 5

By Adam Hetrick
02 Nov 2009

The Off-Broadway world premiere of Liz Duffy Adams' Or, — weekend performances of which were cancelled due to the injury of a cast member — will resume preview performances Nov. 5.

On Oct. 30, actor Andy Paris injured his vocal chords during the second performance of the play that began its run Oct. 29. With no understudy in place for the three-person play, the Women's Project was forced to cancel performances through Nov. 1. The company has also cancelled the Nov. 2 preview while Paris recovers.

Doctors have cleared Paris, who suffered hemorrhaging into his vocal fold, to return to the production Nov. 5. Actor Gian Murray Gianino has been rehearsed to cover for Paris, if needed.

Or, (the comma is part of the title) was originally scheduled to open Nov. 3 and continue through Nov. 30 at the Women's Project. A new opening night has not been set.

WP Lab member Wendy McClellan (Green Girl) directs the production that features Maggie Siff of AMC's "Mad Men," as well as Kelly Hutchinson and Paris.

Or, is described as such: "Aphra Behn is getting out of the spy trade and into show biz, if she can only write her play without interruptions from her love life — celebrity Nell Gwynne, King Charles II, and double-agent William Scott, among others. While war rages and Aphra and her friends celebrate free love, cross-dressing and pastoral lyricism, the 1660s start to look a lot like the 1960s. Verse or prose, now or then, love or death... and a lot of kissing."

Or, is designed by Zane Philstrom (set design), Andrea Lauer (costume design), Deb Sullivan (lighting design) and Elizabeth Rhodes (sound design).
