Sofia Jean Gomez stars as 15th century saint Margery Kempe in Heidi Schreck's Creature, which officially opens Off-Broadway at the Ohio Theatre Nov. 2.

Drama Desk nominee Leigh Silverman (Well, Coraline, Retributionists) stages the engagement that began previews Oct. 28 and will run through Nov. 21. Page 73 Productions and New Georges present the New York playwrighting debut of actress and playwright Schreck.

The cast of Creature includes Sofia Jean Gomez (Arabian Nights) as Margery, Marylouise Burke (Savannah Disputation, Kimberly Akimbo) as Juliana of Norwich, Jeremy Shamos (Gutenberg! The Musical!) as Father Thomas, Darren Goldstein (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson) as John, Tricia Rodley as Nurse and Will Rogers as Asmodeus/Jacob.

"In 1401, a gorgeous young beer-brewer named Margery Kempe sets about trying to become a saint. Seduced by a vision of Jesus Christ in robes of purple — her favorite color — she battles her family, the church, and an intense appetite for earthly pleasures in an improbable bid for salvation. In Creature, contemporary and medieval imaginations collide; it's a very funny, a little bit scary new play about faith and its messengers," according to press notes.

Designing Creature are Rachel Hauck (set design), Matt Frey (lighting design) Theresa Squire (costume design) and Katie Down (sound design).

For tickets, phone (866) 811-4111. The Ohio Theatre is located at 66 Wooster Street.
