Kostroff and Wylie Are the Producers Beginning Aug. 27 at the Gateway Playhouse

The Gateway Playhouse production of the Tony-winning Mel Brooks musical The Producers begins performances Aug. 27 at the Patchogue Theatre in Long Island.
Directed by Larry Raben, the cast is headed by Michael Kostroff as crooked producer Max Bialystock and Adam Wylie as his accountant Leo Bloom. The conniving duo are joined onstage by
Christine Cherry (Ulla), David Edwards (Roger Debris), Stephen Ted Becklar (Franz) and Garth Kravits (Carmen Ghia) with Anne Bloemendal, Sarah Burns, Will Cohen, William James Daniels, Erik Floor, Abeku Hayes, Patrick Oliver Jones, Denis Molnar, Kevin Murnane, Linda Neel, John O'Malley, Candice Pennefather, Jessica Sheridan, Elizabeth Sousek and Lindsay O. Travis.
The Producers features a book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. The musical, according to press notes, "chronicles the hilarious adventures of washed-up Broadway producer Max Bialystock and his mild-mannered accountant Leo Bloom, as they scheme to get rich quick by producing the most notorious flop in the history of showbiz. What they don't know is that after all their hard work, the musical ends up being a smash hit!" Song titles include "I Wanna Be a Producer," "When You Got It, Flaunt It," "Springtime for Hitler" and "Prisoners of Love."
The Producers played 33 previews and 2,502 regular performances at Broadway's St. James Theatre March 2001-April 2007. The original cast boasted Nathan Lane, Matthew Broderick, Roger Bart, Gary Beach and Cady Huffman. The musical won 12 Tony Awards including Best Musical.
The Gateway Playhouse production, which runs through Sept. 13, features choreography by Matthew Vargo, musical direction by Jeff Buchsbaum, lighting design by Paul Miller, original scenic design by Robin Wagner and original costume design by William Ivey Long.
