Description
|
Shakespeare on the Sound is seeking a Managing Director to share leadership of the company with the Artistic Director, Joanna Settle. Both executives report to the company's Board of Directors. The Artistic Director leads and directs the company's creative vision including the selection and production of the annual play.
The Managing Director is responsible for the duties and activities described below:
Management of all donor development activity including individuals, foundations, governments and corporations.
Oversight of special fund raising events.
Increasing revenue from earned income (e.g. gate donations, merchandise sales)
Expansion of the company's donor and audience database.
Development of an annual budget and shared responsibility with the Artistic Director to meet or exceed fiscal goals each year.
Recruit and supervise all administrative staff.
Ensure efficient office operations.
Develop an operations plan for the annual production and implement the plan on time and on budget.
Integrate and coordinate all marketing programs.
Actively engage the Board in all key decisions and issues.
Work closely with the Board to nurture relations with host communities.
Collaborate closely with the Artistic director and the Board on developing expansion plans for the organization.
Candidates must be highly energetic self-starters, strategic thinkers, problem solvers and effective collaborators with strong communication skills. They should have experience in managing organizations with multiple stakeholders.They must be effective fundraisers, demonstrated by past success in the not-for-profit sector. They must be experienced in managing an operating budget.A theater management background is preferred and theater education is an asset. Finally, they must have a passion for the cultural mission of Shakespeare on the Sound and our commitment to provide free Shakespeare to the community. A love of classic theater, especially Shakespeare, is desirable but not required.
Shakespeare on the Sound is Connecticut’s premier outdoor theater company. A not-for-profit, community based organization located in Fairfield County, we produce an annual free outdoor Shakespeare festival in public parks overlooking Long Island Sound in Greenwich and Rowayton. We also offer a year-round educational outreach program in local schools and libraries for both children and adults. The annual operating budget is approximately $550,000, primarily funded through individual contributions. The organization is overseen by a volunteer Board and is managed by a small professional staff.
Candidates must live within commuting distance of our office in Rowayton, CT. No relocation expenses are available for this position.
