Seeking:
Ed: Ultra-assimilated Chinese-American man, 40s. Businessman. Father and husband in an upper-middle-class Californian family. Habitually avoids conflict; projects an optimistic, confident amiable image. Calls people “boss” and “tiger” in earnest.
Grace: Ultra-assimilated Chinese-American woman, 40s. Ed’s wife and mother of two, a homemaker who can’t cook, clean or organize the household. Compassionate, warm and caring, yet fragile and desperate for happiness. Also a very good tap dancer.
Desdemona: Chinese-American girl, age 17 (can be played by an adult). Ultra-assimilated daughter to Ed and Grace. Tightly wound, cutthroat overachiever in hyperdrive. Dreams of early admission to Princeton.
Upton: Chinese-American boy, age 15, (can be played by an adult). Ultra-assimilated son and little brother. Smart but a terrible student. Obsessed with his video games; dreams of fame, fortune and women as a successful gamer.
Jinqiang or "Ching Chong": Chinese man, late 20s. Illegal immigrant who works as Upton’s indentured servant. Dreams of being America Next Top Dancer. Brilliant tap dancer. Grace's lover.
The Chinese Woman: Role for a character actress of any age. Plays a variety of roles, including Mrs. J, Kim Lee Park, the Reporter and the Asian Schoolgirl.
