Job Details
Title The Glass Menagerie -Equity Principal Auditions
Category Performer
Description Roundabout Theatre Company/Laura Pels Theatre LORT B; $750/week minimum

Playwright: Tennessee Williams

Director: Gordon Edelstein

Casting: Carrie Gardner
1st rehearsal: February 9, 2010. Runs: March 5 – June 13.

Seeking:

Jim O’Connor (The Gentleman Caller):

Late 20s to Early 30’s. Tennessee Williams describes Jim as a “nice, ordinary young man”. He works with Tom at the warehouse and has been brought to the Wingfield’s home for dinner with the hope that he may become enamored of Laura. Jim was an outstanding success in high school but life since graduation has been tougher than he expected and he is not quite the golden boy he once was. Still, he is cheerful and optimistic and does his best to draw Laura out of her shell.

One woman to cover:

Amanda, mid to late 50s. A faded Southern Belle, abandoned by her husband and struggling to adjust to the new conditions of her life. She is not fundamentally mean but her desperation to see her children to succeed makes her seem ruthless at times.

One woman to cover:

Laura, mid to late 20s. Amanda’s daughter. A childhood illness that left her physically crippled has caused her to become emotionally fragile.

One Man To Cover:

Tom. Late 20s to Early 30s Amanda’s son and narrator of the play. He aspires to be a poet but holds a job in a warehouse to support his family. His nature is not remorseless, but he feels trapped and to escape he has to act without pity. Actor also covers Jim (See above description).
