Seeking:
Note: All roles but the Interlocutor are African Americans.
Roy: African American man, 18 - 30. Likable, curious and smart. Always pushing the envelope a bit farther then he should. Performer must be an excellent singer/dancer, with especially strong tap skills. Baritone.
Andy: African American man, 18 - 30. Roy’s brother. Straight arrow; always trying to do the right thing and follow the rules. Tenor.
Olen: African American man, 18 – 30. Willing to say or do anything to get his way, or to get out of trouble. Actor also plays the Preacher. Humor. Baritenor.
Willie: African American male, mid - late teens. Silent and resourceful. Steals from the guards. Others think he is slow, but he’s not. Baritenor.
Eugene: African American male teen. Youngest of the boys. Tries to act tough, but is still a kid. Doesn’t fully understand what’s happening around him. Performer must dance, with especially strong tap skills. Tenor.
Mr. Tambo and Mr. Bones: African American men, 30s+. The “end men”. Seeking funny, inventive comedians/song-and-dance men. These actors also play a wide variety of other characters. Baritones.
The Lady: African American woman, early 40s. Working-class, smart, clear-headed and compassionate. Observes the action, bringing a sense of humanity to the proceedings. Non-singing role.
The following five roles are cast. Auditioning performers will be considered as possible replacements, should any become necessary.
Interlocutor: CAST. Caucasian man, 50s+. Southern gentleman. Oversees the trial. Baritone.
Haywood: CAST. African American man, 18 – 30. Hotheaded. Smart. Stands up to authority. Baritenor.
Ozzie: CAST. African American man, 18 – 30. Smart. Quiet. Aware. Actor also plays Ruby (female character). Tenor.
Charle: CAST. African American man, 18 – 30. Likes to exaggerate. The liar. Actor also plays Victoria (female character). Tenor.
Clarence: CAST. African American man, 18 – 30. The bully. Bass-baritone.

Notes/What to bring: Please prepare a brief (preferably 32-bar) song from the 1920’s or 1930’s. Traditional music theatre songs evoking that era are also acceptable. Bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided.
